This year the Oscar’s had no surprises. The winners were the expected ones and basically a repeat of the Golden Globes winners (minus 2 or 3 exceptions). I loved the movie “The Grand Budapest Hotel”(and I love all things Wes Anderson related) & that was my choice to win the biggest accolade of the night; the “best movie award”, but no such luck.
Fashion wise, the Oscars were so underwhelming, so safe, so uninspired… I can not comprehend, for the life of me what goes on the actresses (and their stylists) minds when choosing their dress. Are they avoiding the worst dressed list? Would they rather go with the “safe” choice, than the “bold” choice? B O R I N G! This is THE one night when the stars can come on full out haute couture gowns. Where were the long trains? The fantasy dresses? The glamour of years before? The DRAMA?! There was so little good dresses to choose from the actual award’s red carpet, that I had to add to my list celebrities from the Oscar’s after parties. Enough said, let’s get right down to it! Here goes: my best, worst (and the rest) dressed at the 87th Academy Awards.
*Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab*
I struggled with her being my best dressed of the night but then this happened:
NO WORDS…She just Destroyed every other celebrity in the red carpet, every little detail about her whole look was so on point! Casually wearing a fur stole over her beaded magnificent gown. She can do no wrong. FYI she was just a presenter, not even a nominee! Watch & learn girls, ‘cuz Jenny from the block just schooled all of you!
*Emma Stone in Elie Saab*
Kudos to Emma for always taking fashion risk and pushing boundaries! I think I’ve never seen this color on the Oscar’s red carpet before. She took a risk and it paid off beautifully. Not only that, she then continued to WOW us wearing this Altuzarra dress straight off the runway, to the Oscar’s after party activities.
*Naomi Watts in Armani Privé*
I really liked this dress, the paneling makes it look very avant garde and the unexpected back keeps it looking young and fresh.
*Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent
She was giving me LIFE in this 70’s inspired gown. That statement necklace was the perfect accessory and her hair and makeup were flawless.
*Behati Prinsloo in Armani*
I ADORED this dress. Very feminine and chic! The only thing that ruined it for me was her hairdo & that necklace. I would’ve loved for her to have let her hair loose, and that would’ve made the whole thing look perfect.
*Diane Kruger in Donna Karan Atelier*
By far, this would’ve been my best dressed celeb of the night but by a technicality (this wasn’t the Oscars red carpet) she couldn’t be. If by now y’all didn’t know, this woman can do no wrong in my eyes. She’s my fashion/style spirit animal and constant source of inspiration, and a fashion icon in her own right as proven (again & again) in all her red carpet appearances.
*Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad*
I mean, HOT DAMN! Girl be looking sexy as hell!
Nicole Kidman in Louis Vuitton
What is this?! I don’t get it… That hem? Eeek!
Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klein Collection
I expected so much from her! This dress this nothing for her, it looked costume-y and gaudy
Chloé Grace Moretz in Miu Miu
This pained my eyes! She’s one of my favorites, she’s so beautiful but in this dress she looks like she belongs in the set of a “Marie Antoinette” era movie (and she’s not even the lead character in it) Also, the dress resemblances old yellowy drapes.
Keira Knightley in Valentino
When I first saw this dress on the runway I LOVED it. On her, it was not tailored, ill fitting and it looks like a mumu dress.
Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen
Talk about matronly! This dress aged her, and don’t even get me started with her unfortunate looking bangs. The whole look is senior prom circa 1997.
Lorelei Linklater in Gabriela Cadena
Maybe she was channeling Memoirs of a Geisha gone bad? This is just wrong in so many levels.
….and the rest… (Honorable Mentions, thank you for trying!)
Solange in Christian Siriano
Resse Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Anna Faris in Zuhair Murad
Jenna Dewan–Tatum in Zuhair Murad
